October 18th, 2010 by admin

The Auction for my contribution to this years Wonder Woman day has begun.

Here is the new link for my WW D auction. There was a problem with the previous listing and it has been relisted. This is for charity and I really believe in this cause, so I ask that those who had previously bid on this to please bid again. Let’s help as much as possible.

You may bid on the auction here

Wonder Woman Day is an annual bi-coastal fundraising event founded by best-selling author Andy Mangels that takes place each October during national Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In the last four years the event has raised over $89,000 for domestic violence shelters and programs: this year’s goal: break $100,000!

Dragon Con and The Art of Akira

August 31st, 2010 by admin

AKIRAweb

Hello kiddies! Getting ready for Dragon Con this coming weekend in Atlanta GA. I will be doing the usual con sketches and will have a varaity of prints and original art available at my table.  I will be located in the Comic and Pop Art Alley (in the Hyatt Regency) at table TBL 64. No word on panels yet but if it changes i will post about them.

In addition to the above i will have a limited edition print as part of the Art Of Akira Exhibit.  It will be available to purchase initially at the exhibit and then later at my table.  In cooperation with Joe Peacock and ToonSeum – The Art of Akira, is an extensive exhibit of original production artwork from the most influential anime of all time. A weekend of special programming spotlighting Katsuhiro Otomo‘s masterpiece, with panels (Saturday at 4pm), presentations and a gallery of works from the largest private collection of Akira artwork. The Art of Akira will prove to be an exciting event for any fan of anime or animation – demonstrating in great detail why this contemporary classic is widely cited as an influence on creators from a myriad of mediums.

CV Thank you!

August 21st, 2010 by admin

I just want to take a moment to thank all of you who picked up he CV print, came by for sketches, bid on the TK helmet project! Over $50,000 raised! (Tuskin Trooper raised an unexpected $1200 for Make A Wish!!! Thank you so much!), attended the Her Universe Fashion Show and supported the HU booth, or just stopped by to say hello! CV was fantastic and we had a great time! I think it may be my favorite one yet!  I am looking forward to the next one already!

As for now..i have work to get back to and what looks like a cold to shake that hit me yesterday as we were getting ready to leave Orlando.  So off to soup, work and prepping for Dragon Con….whew

Thanks again everyone!!

TK Helmet Project

August 2nd, 2010 by admin

FinalTKHere is my contribution to the Star Wars TK Helmet Project for Make a Wish Foundation. I have created a Tusken Trooper.

The TK Project is a charity event for the Make A Wish Foundation. The 501st Stormtooper Legion is inviting our Honorary Members, Friends Of the Legion and a few 501st troopers to create one of a kind Stormtrooper helmets. This project is similar to the Vader Project that Sarah Jo Marks and Dov Kelemer completed.

Also.. Remarques will be done at the show. Please bring your requests to the show and any reference you may need. Adding them to your reservation may get lost in the shuffle.

Thanks for all your support and we can’t wait to see you in Orlando!

If you are interested in reserving a print here is the information again! Act now!

Her Universe Comic-Con Panel: Focus on Female Fans

July 31st, 2010 by admin

Writing Strong Female Characters
By Bonnie Burton
Photos by Nicole Love & Bonnie Burton

Star Wars: The Clone Wars voice actress Ashley Eckstein brought together some of today’s leading women who are movers and shakers in the various fields of sci-fi and fantasy on the “Her Universe: Shining the Spotlight on Female Fans” panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Eckstein, who Star Wars fans already know as the voice of Ahsoka Tano on The Clone Wars as well as the founder of Her Universe apparel for female fans, moderated the panel which included Jane Espenson (producer/writer, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Warehouse 13), Melinda Snodgrass (author, The Edge series; story editor, Star Trek: The Next Generation), Erika Kennair (Director of Development and Programming, Syfy Channel), Cat Staggs (Star War artist), and Mary

Franklin (Senior Events Lead, Lucasfilm Ltd.).

Looking at science fiction through female eyes, the panel discussed what kinds of entertainment female sci-fi fans want to see more of, what strides have been made, what has been missing up till now, what kinds of merchandise female fans want to see, and what female fans can do to encourage more of all of this.

“Hand Of Fate”

Artist: Cat Staggs

Today, StarWarsShop launches the fourth piece in its limited 12-part The Empire Strikes Back30th Anniversary Artwork Collection, a haunting image of Emperor Palpatine from his first appearance in the Star Wars saga by artist Cat Staggs.

While we never actually see the Emperor in a physical setting in The Empire Strikes Back (he only appears as a hologram), Staggs has envisioned the scene as it takes place within the Emperor’s chambers on Coruscant, a locale that movie-goers had not yet been introduced to when Empirewas released in 1980.

We asked Cat a few questions about “Hand of Fate,” and how she brought Empire’s Emperor to life (literally):
